Let's celebrate!

by sweetymon @ Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006 - 17:22:48

I had my post-op today, pretty useless but I got all I wanted, they confirmed that the tumour was benign, no malignancy i.e. no cancer. Hurrah!!! Jesus, you learn to cope with the shit life throws your way but for >:XX's sake, dont throw anything like that at me again! But yea other than that it was rather pointless, here's why:

1. The doctor looked at me and said "have I seen you before? It says here you have a swollen gland"

2. I told him I still cant open my mouth much and he said "was it like that before the operation?"

3. He asked if I'd had my stitches removed, but they are internal stitches which means they cant be removed, and if he'd only looked at my neck he would've seen the tape covering them up

4. He didnt clean his hands with Purell!

5. He poked my wound and pulled my ear

6. He read the operation log out loud, so now I know that first they located the large tumour, found the nerves, pulled up the ear up...

But bottom line, everything went well. I might cry. I havent cried during this whole asperity, I tend to wait until things are ok and then let myself break down, it's the only way to get through. Gotta go back in 3 months for a check up, it's so scary that it might happen again. But I'm not gonna think about it now! I've just had a cinnamon swirl and I'm having sushi for dinner so it's a very happy day indeed! If I wasnt on painkillers, I'd have some champagne!

Today's song is 'red flag' by Billy Talent.

New quiz everyone, feel free to borrow it!

by sweetymon @ Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006 - 22:09:26

Ok I know I keep saying I don't like these things, but they're so addictive! And besides, I need a new fad because carrot cake is a rather unhealthy one. Actually, it's just that I ate all the cake so have no choice but to keep busy doing something else.

1. What is the first thing people notice about you? Probably my hair, it looks foreign.

2. Name 3 things you couldn't live without? Water, moisturiser and someone to keep me company.

3. If we gave you £500 to spend what would you blow it on? A holiday, with a spa!

4. Who makes you smile? I'm not saying.

5. What was your favourite childhood holiday? I grew up in Brazil, everyday was a holiday!

6. Tell us about your best friend. She's got bright red curly hair, a little crazy, terrible at remembering song lyrics, great cook, cant remember where she leaves her stuff half the time, amazing artist, very determined, sensitive, she has strong beliefs like me, hates tattoos and piercings, slightly stubborn - typical taurean.

7. Describe your most vivid memory? Ooh there's loads! When I was about five I was eating a peach and I saw a maggot in it so I threw the peach at my cousin. I still check fruit for maggots today. Another one was melting plastic dinosaurs with my sister in our nan's back garden when we were little, awww. Ok I wasnt little...it was six years ago. And we also melted our toothbrushes.

8. What's on your internal Jukebox at the moment? It ends tonight by The All-American Rejects.

9. What headline would you most like to read about yourself? "The new critically acclaimed public relations mogul's book is a bestseller, and being made into a film!" If that makes any sense. Maybe I should just go with Cheryl and say "Colin Firth marries Sainsbury's till girl". Except that I dont work in Sainsbury's.

10. Describe your bedroom. Loft, French chic, white, mauve skirting boards, laminate flooring, roof window, chunky wardrobe, scandinavian bed, classy mirror, drums and guitar on the corner, pretty cushions, smells of incense.

11. What leaves you tongue tied? When someone does something nice, or when I shoot myself in the foot.

12. What's the best lie you've ever told? I cant lie, I giggle and tell the truth 5 minutes later.

13. What keeps you awake at night? Too much sugar.

14. What's your nickname? Other than embarassing childhood nicknames, it's Mon - hardly elaborate!

15. Who does your washing? Me, because I want to.

16. What are your three essentials for a good night out? Nice outfit, nice company, nice music.

17. What's the strangest thing you've ever put in your mouth? After thinking about it for ages, I wanna say I'm very careful and dont put strange things in my mouth. Wait, unless Barbie shoes counts...

18. Who would you like to be for the day and why? Nelson Mandela, to know what it feels like to be a world leader.

19. Who was on your bedroom wall as a teenager? 'N Sync...

20. Which famous people dead or alive would you like to be stuck in a lift with and why? Ok first of all, I never want to be stuck in a lift again, ever!!! But if I had to, Karl Marx to talk about the unfairness of the world and have someone agree with me. Oh my God I'm stuck in a lift with a dead person. I dont like this question.

Cake cake cake!

by sweetymon @ Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006 - 18:54:46

Caaaaake!!! My mom's fabulous, she's been cooking my favourite foods everyday since I had the operation. Even though I feel a bit useless (nothing I can do about it, dont judge me!) I am enjoying it because I'm still poorly and I really appreciate the willingess to help me recover. So thanks mommy for everything xxx

So, cake! She read on my faceparty profile that her carrot cake is my favourite food, along with cinnamon swirls, so today she made the delicious cake and I've just eaten a gigantic chunk of it! And the other day I said I fancied some caramel so she bought some caramel puddings, but then I saw the amount of calories and fat on them and opted for the profiteroles instead. I'm such an arsehole, and the karma is going to make me fat.

Anyway, going to the doctor's for a check up on thursday, and then helping my friend move on friday, and then going to the cinema on saturday! So I'm shitting myself at the prospect of going back to my life, with a numb face and a scar. Scary stuff.

Right, today's song is 'ready to fall' by Rise Against!

Hurrah I smell like horses again

by sweetymon @ Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006 - 12:30:12

Horse shampoo that is! Did you know that Aussie Miracle was originally made for horses?! It's a great shampoo, especially for demanding manes like mine. Finally washed my hair! The stitches look fine so I'm glad about that hehehe. Ahhhh it feels so good to have bouncy clean hair again, as opposed to looking like Einstein. And you wouldnt believe the amount of hair that came off when I was washing/brushing it, honestly you could make a wig. Anyway, just realised some of you might find this desgusting, so I'll move onto another subject!

Going out - today I'm gonna make my first proper public appearance since the op. Not going anywhere too busy though, I wouldnt wanna scare little children with my stiches. Ok that's bollocks, it's to do with insecurity. I dont know, it's all in your head I guess. I know what I looked like before the op and at the moment I still look a bit expressionless, as my face nerves still havent woken up properly. I know that no one would care cos they dont know me, but it's still weird somehow. Ah well, it's only been ten days so I suppose this reaction is perfectly normal! Which is weird, as I rarely show signs of being normal. Hum...

Today's song is 'to be loved' by Papa Roach!

No Big Mac smoothie, thanks

by sweetymon @ Monday, Aug. 21, 2006 - 14:59:41

Hello hello, I'm heeeah! I feel mean for neglecting my blog, but there's not much I can say cos I havent been doing anything other than resting. And I dont wanna bore you all with a description of what my pyjamas look like or how many degrees I've managed to move my head today!

Sooo, I've been giving myself little targets. Yesterday's achievement was biting a waffle! Today's achievement was eating a whole raspberry without squashing it first, hurrah! This week I intend on eating a cheeseburger, which is weird as I'm not a fan of meat and I dont like fast food. Nonetheless, I could so eat a Big Mac right now. Shame my mouth only opens about 2cm and a Big Mac is about 6cm; and Andy's idea of throwing it in the blender and making a smoothie out of it didnt really appeal to me.

Well I'm gonna go relax for a bit. Doing too much makes the pain worse. Take care everyone, and have a brilliant afternoon!

Back home from hospital

by sweetymon @ Friday, Aug. 18, 2006 - 18:02:16

Hey dudes,

I'm home! I went to the hospital on wednesday morning, had the op about 2pm and came home yesterday lunch time. Obviously spent most of the day asleep, but managed to open all my birthday pressies and eat a slice of both my cakes. I had two cakes! :D I ate the iced Tigger's ear, so now both of us cant feel one of our ears haha. God it's annoying, the right side of my face is so stiff and numb. And my feet looked like Frodo's earlier cos of the lack of circulation. Mommy stayed next to me all night, holding my head. :) Poor mommy, it's times like these you realise that the mom job doesnt end when the kids grow up I suppose. I really appreciate her. And this whole experience has put things into perspective, e.g. I didnt care earlier that my toothbrush was touching someone else's. Maybe it's the meds, but I definitely have an even bigger new found love for life. And for co-codemol.

I'll have to come back and write about my experience soon; I'm still a bit high. Spoken to a few people on the phone, cant remember what I said to them. Sooo on that note, I shall go.

Oh, the first person I saw when I came back to the ward from theatre was my mom, and I started singing Mariaaaaa by Blondie to her. Then I saw my dad and said "hi Lu!". And apparently I was pointing and laughing at Andy for ages, cos he's got short hair for the first time since I met him. I think the doctors enjoyed sending me to sleep. Ah, morphine. Almost as good as chocolate cake with an iced Tigger.

Today's song is 'hear you me' by Jimmy Eat World. It's a bit ironic that last time I was in hospital and wasnt sure whether to stay and have the op or go home, the song that came on my ipod was 'the middle' by JEW. This turn though, their song gave me the courage to do it. That and the amount of people praying for me and sending me well wishes. I'm ever so thankful to everyone! :)

How could I ever be normal?

by sweetymon @ Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006 - 18:42:07

My dad was towel-drying his hair, got a bit annoyed and started telling my mom that the towel was rough and thin and really crap. So my mom goes "maybe if you'd stop using the bath mat it'd dry better". ;D And then we were in town shopping and my mom says to me "there wont be any pleasant surprises for your birthday this year". What?! Does that mean there'll be unpleasant ones? I'm quite worried. It makes me wonder...if I was proper normal, I just wouldnt fit in this family. Bunch of crazy people I tell ya! Hehehe love them all more than anything. ;)

Ooh like I said we went shopping and I got more birthday pressies! Amazing shoes (really, really pretty!), clothes, a juicy tube, a watch and something that my mom wouldnt let me see. I've told people, in a nice way, to stop buying me Tiggers. As I saw my mom walking away from us towards the Disney shop I shouted "no Piglets either!", so I wonder what she's got in that Disney bag!! I'm sure I'll love it though. You have to, they're so cute! :>>

We were gonna go for a meal tonight but I said I didnt want steak and apparently pasta isnt nice enough to go out for, so we're staying in and eating pasta! Hehe mmmm pasta, my favourite. I'm getting lots of sympathy! Gifts, tolerance, my fave foods... it's enough to make someone actually want to have an operation!

Today's song is 'trouble' by Ray LaMontagne. I guess I'll catch up with you guys when I'm back! In the mean time, pray for me will ya? I'm shit scared. Thanks! :)

Because I got bored...

by sweetymon @ Monday, Aug. 14, 2006 - 17:07:02

And what do you do when you're bored? You take pictures! So here's a few...

Moving back home

My room when I was sorting out all my stuff...

Back to normal

And then Monica got her hands on it hehehe...and the teddies in their temporary place!

Cushions

And my new cushions that my mom bought me! Took us about an hour to find ones I really liked...

What else...oh, yes. I think people like to give me Tiggers...

Tiggers!

Those are just the teddies, there's also pens, toys, boxes, a book and a cushion. I also found my halloween attire, and it took me a while to convince my mom that it's not bondage and I'm not kinky, christ...

Halloween attire

Like my head band?!

Ok I'm gonna go prepare some stuff for tomorrow, like getting rid of the black nail varnish for instance...

Half happy, half sad

by sweetymon @ Monday, Aug. 14, 2006 - 12:16:43

Weeeee 3 days til my birthdaaaay!!! Also 2 days until the operation, but we wont talk about that! I realised that God doesnt hate me altogether; maybe this is a lesson or maybe it's just a coincidence, but I'm not completely unlucky because at least I have the opportunity to have treatment whereas many people cant due to many reasons. But it's like that saying..."Shit happens. Mostly to me, so dont worry!"

Right, yesterday I went to my mate's new place and I've gotta say it's amazing! Spacious, nicely decorated with 50s furniture and in a really nice area. Obviously me and another mate had trouble finding it. We got 2 buses, asked several people for help, looked like complete imbeciles and found her road by chance. She'd told us it was a big house so when I saw a big house I jokingly said 'oh look big house, maybe thats it", and then I noticed the name of the road, went "ahhhh thats it" and ran off the bus. We looked crazy.

Later on I went to Andy's to get the rest of my stuff. He had an epiphany and decided that he doesnt want my crap there anymore or indeed anything that reminds him of me. So I packed everything and got home with several bags full of stuff. Being a Monica, I had to tidy everything up straight away and it must've taken me about 5 hours! But everything's back to normal now, except that I cant make myself give away the teddies he gave me. I just cant! They all look so sad, like they're judging me. I know that sounds crazy, but it's true.

So, today I'm gonna go out and buy pillows and cushions for my bed and some little things I need for hospital, or indeed 'rainbow' as I've renamed it. Hospital sounds too taboo and reminds me of that smell, which should be disinfectant but it's more like piss and people who dont have a wash, eugh.

Today's song is 'new born' by Muse.

Oh and I wanna send my condolences to Kay; sadly she's just lost her little furry friend. RIP guinea pig. :(

Love,

Mon xx

Fashion Photography

by sweetymon @ Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006 - 16:16:15

God I'm such an air head! Just realised I forgot to mention that I went to see the fashion art exhibition. It was really good! The pictures were so pretty and inspiring; and it's so romantic that the photographer used his wife on most of his photos for the French Vogue magazine. Maybe I too will use my wife in my work when I'm a famous publicist. :D For those of you who dont know, I'm not a lesbian...that was a joke. No Andy, I'm not a lesbian. God! And the best part of the day was that my mom bought me a coconut soap bar hmmmm I could sniff it all day. Well I kinda did. It's soooo good. Actually that sounds weird, let me explain... the gallery is called Lady Lever, and Lever make soaps. Or something like that.

Mother wanted to kill us when she asked "do you wanna have lunch here?" and we said yes, then we went off and got chocolate cake and a scone. Haaaaahahahaha. She looked at my scone and went "a muffin? I offer you lunch and you get a muffin?!". It's a scone! :o Like my mother always says: if this family didnt exist, it'd have to be made up.

Right, I'm gonna go find something to do, like stare at my colourful African earings (fair trade, it's all about equity) or sniff my coconut soap or something.

Love,

Monica xx

Birthday Money Mwahaha

by sweetymon @ Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006 - 15:37:00

Weee birthday money spendage rules! :>> I've already bought a Benefit blusher and girly stuff and got my hair done hurrah! For once I actually love it! The colour's chocolatey and yummy and radiant. Yes it is the damn "rachel" again, kinda. BUT when I wash it it's gonna look really cool and hardcore yeah man! Ok enough of the crazy talk. Soooo not much going on no oh no, but through my own decision because I just havent got the energy to make the effort to go out or do anything really. I feel guilty for spending so much money, oh God what's happened to me?! I have a conscience and it's fully aware of the fact that students are only allowed to buy alcohol, bread and pasta. I suppose if I dont spend any money on these I can justify my spending and let myself off. There you go.

Ok now that we've all got peace of mind, let's just have a quick word about wind. Is it really necessary? Surely rain is enough to wash away the impurities. My hair looks nice for once, didnt you just hear me?!!! Then the evil wind goes and messes it up, and makes it stick to my lipgloss. FFS. Raaaaah! >:(

Ooh so much excitment. My favourite holiday is in 5 days! :>> Today's song is 'cigarette smoke' by the Arctic Monkeys.

Someone falls to pieces and someone kills the pain...

by sweetymon @ Wednesday, Aug. 09, 2006 - 18:38:28

...but my painkiller is no longer willing. Argh. Not in the best of moods, but it's been continuously improving over the past few days. God bless vodka, works every time! Well, almost every time anyway. So! You know when people say "when one part of your life goes well, the other inevitably falls apart", or whatever it is people say? Well, it's happening to me. Except that it's not one part that's fucked up, it's everything. It's not that I'm ungrateful and I know things could be much worse, but we need to have a rant once in a while and now it's my turn. U-(

I'm being cut open next week and may end up paralysed as a result, and will have a massive scar. I wanna be in a relationship again... enough said. People you expect to love you unconditionally use all the stuff they know about you against you and judge you interminably, and it hurts. One thing I cant complain about is uni though; really enjoying the holidays and I'm gonna be a mentor to 1st year students in September. A shit one at that, yes probably. But I fancy giving it a go! :))

What do you do when chocolate, chick flicks, girly nights out and alcohol arent enough?

Today's song is 'be yourself' by Audioslave. :.

Chee-aaas!

by sweetymon @ Sunday, Aug. 06, 2006 - 20:29:57

Oh hello!

I was supposed to go out last night but my mate couldnt go in the end (and she's the reason I was going) so I decided to buy copious amounts of alcohol and other ingredients and make cocktails! We had a get together and it was a lot of fun, by the end we weren't making much sense but that's what I call fun! Let's see...we had strawberry daiquiris to start with, then cosmopolitans, pina coladas, and then we just made our own; perhaps we should call them Pure Alcohol, as they were a little bit strong! I've got some pictures on my phone, will have to post them soon! :D

Other than that I've not been up to much, just the usual tv-watching, chocolate-eating, exercise-avoiding, magazine-reading, crazy-dancing randomness that I like to call my day-to-day life! Cant wait to see the Portraits in Fashion exhibition tomorrow, I always find it inspiring to see insteresting art. I'd be a good artist if I could draw! I have the ideas but cant draw them...what a pity.

Anyway today's song is 'apply some pressure' by Maximo Park! "What happens when you lose everything, you just start again, you start all over again." :**:

That's it, I'm shaving my hair

by sweetymon @ Friday, Aug. 04, 2006 - 12:54:32

I have a new fad and I'm glad to say that it doesnt have as many calories as the last one - gingerbread men. So here it is; nicked from Ros, who nicked it from Charlie!

Favourites List

Food: Pasta
Non alcoholic drink: Water
Alcoholic drink: Martini and lemonade
Place you have visited: Rio de Janeiro
Song: Ooh hard one...'the kids arent alright' by The Offspring, I've liked it for like 8 years so it must be special
Book: Can you keep a secret
Artist: My mom
Author: Sophie Kinsella
Article of clothing: My jeans that go with everything!
Colour: Pink
Celeb: Angelina Jolie
Time: Mid-afternoon when everyone's busy except me
Car you have owned: I can drive, but they wont give me my license
Material thing: Glittery pink heart shaped guitar :>>
Memory: Girly sleepovers, and when Andy asked me out
Tree: Cherry blossom trees!

Another productive thing to add to my list of hobbies! Right, now...I know I said I was happy that my hair didnt fall off when I dyed it, and obviously I am very happy about that. BUT it's gone really bad now, it wont curl anymore and it's just psycho. I think I'm gonna have to have it cut, as it seems the only option. Grrrrrrr.

Today's song is 'sideways' by Citizen Cope.
