Race for Life

by sweetymon @ Saturday, Jun. 28, 2008 - 17:01:06

Did you know that 5k was such a long way? My legs are gonna hurt tomorrow...

I've just got home and freshened up from Race for Life. It was such a good event, especially as it was expected to raise £400.000, and all the races together about £50.000.000!!

Bloody cancer. So many of us are affected by it. My tumour turned out to be benign, but sadly not everyone is as lucky. All we can do is help towards cancer research and hope that they find a cure very soon.

All about Oli

by sweetymon @ Thursday, Jun. 26, 2008 - 19:59:08

My snuggle bunny is 9 months tomorrow. Altogether now: "Awwwwww!" :>>

As his first birthday is approaching, I'm thinking of having a party and inviting his doggy friends - Oscar, Toby, Jazz, Sophie and Harvey. There will be party bags with treats and toys for the pooches to take away, a bone hunt, a doggy pinata full of little treats, doggy canapés and games.

As for presents, I'm thinking he needs boots like mummy's, pyjamas, clothes, and cakes, of course.

And let's not forget that after his birthday comes Halloween, one of my favourite holidays. But that's a whole other subject for another post...

Do you see how much I need a job?

To have stuck in my head that is, not in terms of quality. I actually love it! But the only person I'm kissing is Mike. :>> And Oli, but that's just the way you kiss your babies.

She looks like Zooey Deschanel, dontcha think?

Night night.

Some things never change

by sweetymon @ Wednesday, Jun. 25, 2008 - 11:05:58

I still waste time, call it "personal growth", and create accidents in the kitchen.

I still don't look properly before crossing the road.

I still carry out interesting experiments...

...and do things on impulse.

And I still can't decide whether to have a fringe, a side fringe, or no fringe at all.

See, some things never change...

I'm an old blogger

by sweetymon @ Wednesday, Jun. 25, 2008 - 07:42:14

I'd call it nostalgia but it's not like I miss those days, except for being a lady of leisure living in a really cool place across the road from Liverpool's most famous park. After reading Sub's post, I started thinking about what's happened since I joined blogland.

I was living with whats-his-name and had just quit my job, the one I was supposed to keep while I was waiting to start another degree in September because frankly the first one was crap. I really enjoyed being able to take up my hobbies as daily activities, like reading and going for walks in the park. Started uni again, broke up with whats-his-name, moved back home, had an operation to remove a tumour, had an epiphany (simultaneously), realised me and whats-his-name were never gonna work, got effed up in more than one way, dettached myself from old roots, met someone, realised someone was an arse, became a cynic, became a vegetarian, met Mike. Ahhhh, Mike. Went to Paris with Mike, had my 21st, went to a festival after I'd sworn not to ever again, went to Amsterdam, had our first anniversary, finished uni. And here we are. A lot's happened, no?

Hopefully the next steps will be: get a job, get a house, get another dog, and we shall leave it here because I'm scared I'll jinx it. :>>

Pondering

by sweetymon @ Monday, Jun. 23, 2008 - 11:26:03

I was reading Courtney Love's book, Dirty Blonde, last night and in it was a quote by George Bernard Shaw. I think he was a genius. I was just looking up his works again and these are some of my favourite quotes:

"You are going to let the fear of poverty govern your life and your reward will be that you will eat, but you will not live."

"You see things; and you say, 'Why?' But I dream things that never were; and I say, "Why not?""

"People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can't find them, make them."

"Liberty means responsibility. That is why most men dread it."

"A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing."

"Alcohol is the anesthesia by which we endure the operation of life."

"People become attached to their burdens sometimes more than the burdens are attached to them."

"People who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it."

Go on, have an epiphany. Empower yourself; look at the world with different eyes. I dare ya. :)

To go or not to go

by sweetymon @ Sunday, Jun. 22, 2008 - 12:58:34

Well the weather's awful. Spent the morning at a car boot sale for charity and I've now given up on going to an African festival I've been looking forward to for ages. On the bright side, if there must always be one, I had a lovely night with the boy and his family last night. He makes me smile.

Hmmm... I might brave the weather to go to that festival... tough decision...

Today's song is:

I love this song. Hope you're having a nice day!

I no longer like cacti

by sweetymon @ Thursday, Jun. 19, 2008 - 19:59:19

So apparently tequila *shivers* is a spirit on same the level of alcoholic percentage as whisky... And when mixed with other spirits to give it flavour (supposedly) I'm guessing it probably goes over 50%. Huh... interesting...

Went to see The Happening with the boy last night, it's scary but good, I thought. This, on the other hand, tastes a bit like pepper.

My side of the story

by sweetymon @ Wednesday, Jun. 18, 2008 - 19:05:02

Thanks mum. So last night my mates took me out to celebrate getting my degree. It was very low key and nice to catch up. Until Jen decided to say "oooh let's have tequila!". Urgh, that word makes me feel sick. Anyway, after some beer and several tequila shots (some of which were flavoured but tasted just like ass anyway), I managed to get home. And be violently sick. And keep my mother up, holding a towel on my face, which I think it's safe to say failed slightly, judging by the state of my bed this morning. This had never happened to me before but I can now say "oh there was this one night..."

There will only be one night. My insides hurt. I'd say 'lesson learnt', but it's not like I had to learn a lesson, as I'm not a big drinker. It was simply a drunken mistake...

Oh man...

Last night's song was:

Yaaaaay!

by sweetymon @ Monday, Jun. 16, 2008 - 13:38:44

Oh. My. Gooooood!!!!! The exam results are finally in (I know, after the degree classification...) and I'm so chuffed with what I got! If it wasn't for the superfluous non-marketing subjects I was forced to do, I would've had a 1st. Don't care though, just knowing that my hard work paid off is a great feeling. Make that amazing feeling! If only I'd worked equally as hard since the first day... :))

Woohoooo! Now I need somebody to give me a job, pweety pwease.

Sonnets from the Portuguese

by sweetymon @ Sunday, Jun. 15, 2008 - 21:11:48

It's got nothing to do with football; as soon as my dad mentioned the words "not necessary to win" I kinda lost the will to watch the match. I have found a beautiful poem though, entitled "Sonnets from the Portuguese XIV". Here it is:

If thou must love me, let it be for nought
Except for love's sake only.
Do not say 'I love her for her smile, her look,
Her way of speaking gently,
For a trick of thought that falls in well with mine,
And certes brought a sense of pleasant ease on such a day'
For these things in themselves, Beloved,
May be changed, or change for thee
And love, so wrought, may be unwrought so.
Neither love me for thine own dear pity's wiping my cheeks dry,
A creature might forget to weep,
Who bore thy comfort long, and lose thy love thereby.
But love me for love's sake,
That evermore thou mayst love on,
Through love's eternity.

- Elizabeth Barrett Browning

So sad, don't you think?

Tell me why I don't like sundays

by sweetymon @ Sunday, Jun. 15, 2008 - 13:26:33

Man, I hate sundays. I woke up The doggy woke me up, I had breakfast, caught up on current affairs, gave dad his presents, got bored and went back to bed. Up again at 12:30pm, had lunch, bored again. I'm thinking about another nap after reading the papers...

The good old days

by sweetymon @ Saturday, Jun. 14, 2008 - 08:02:42

Being up a silly o'clock reminds me of when I was still at school, walking on those chilly mornings, wearing a skirt, and yawning every two seconds. So I've been reminiscing about my old school days this morning (the whole half an hour I've been up for). There were some pretty embarassing moments, but there were also fun times. For example, I loved being part of these plays:

And singing these in the choir:

One Singular Sensation - Chorus Line

Fum, Fum, Fum - The Philippine Madrigal Singers

Well, I say "singing" loosely, most of the time all I did was move my mouth and not let out a sound. Don't tell Mr Newlove.

Today's song is:

Good Old Days - The Libertines

P.S.- Mr Newlove has a webpage. Hahaha.

Many dips

by sweetymon @ Friday, Jun. 13, 2008 - 20:24:35

When I'm bored, one of the things I enjoy doing is cooking, and then inflicting it upon other people because for some reason you're never as interested in your own food as you are in other people's. So I made a lentil dip, then got carried away and decided to declare tonight "dip party". As well as lentil, I made hummus, broccoli, spicy bean, and salsa. Then there were nachos to dip in them. They went down very well and to say the least, if my dad approves of my cooking, you know it's good. :>> There's still a lot of stuff left so if you'd like to come and have some nachos and breadsticks stuffed with yummy things, feel free to do so.

Today's song is:

This is one of my favourite all time songs. I love putting it on and sounding like a strangled cat singing really loud, and used to love playing it on the drums. Sniff. RIP drums.

Love,

Mon xx

P.s.- Those are not my pictures; mine tasted good but frankly didn't look awesome.

Blow the horn

by sweetymon @ Wednesday, Jun. 11, 2008 - 17:53:53

I've got a degree!!

A 2:1 :>> I'm so happy!!! So's my mother. I told her, then went to tell my sister five minutes later and she said "I know, mum told me." Another ten minutes later mum rang me, already had champagne in the trolley, asking what else I wanted to drink to celebrate. My dad's first reaction was "Hehehe... can I change the channel? The football's on" ... I'm so proud of myself. And relieved. And so happy!!!

Thank you for your well wishes, they worked :)

It's ooooveeeeeer. Thank God for that.

Gaaah!!!

by sweetymon @ Sunday, Jun. 08, 2008 - 18:15:57

Me and the pooch got bullied by a staffordshire terrier in the park. We were happily strolling, Oli was sniffing his beloved daisies, and I saw this big dog coming, but it was on a lead so I didnt worry. What does the stupid owner do??? Let it off the lead!!! It charged straight towards us and I started screaming like a little girl, but obviously didn't run - I did listen to my parents as a child, never run from dogs!! So I wrapped my arms around Oli and started yelling at its owner to take the dog cos I was scared. I must've said that I was scared five times in a row. What did he do?? Nothing! Aaarrrgh!!! So as fast as I could I moved towards our car, all the while with this huge jaw following me with its eyes set on my baby... managed to get to the car and my mum had a word with the owner. What did he say?? "If you don't want to play f* off!". Nice. I hate irresponsible dog owners. It's nice to you and it won't bite you, but my dog, who undeniably looks like a rabbit, well that's another story. If somebody started screaming in fear and asked me to get my dog, I would be mortified and apologize to them. I wouldn't just stand there watching a girl scream with her little dog and trying to get away from the huge staffordshire terrier. >:XX idiot!!

I'm just glad to still have my arms, and of course that Oli's safe.

Everyone wants to be rescued

by sweetymon @ Saturday, Jun. 07, 2008 - 16:21:37

In one episode of Sex and the City Charlotte uttered a phrase all feminists dread to hear - "All women really want is to be rescued." At the time, I did think that it was sexist and it's not just women, but men too, who sometimes want and need to be rescued. Right now, however, I agree with that phrase. I was stuck in the city centre with two heavy bags (and my handbag on the other arm), in heels, in the wind, and couldn't get home because for ages there was no transport going in and out of town due to the Lord Mayor's Parade. At that time, I really just wanted to be rescued. And it made me think, I'm not self-sufficient because I enjoy doing everything for myself; I had to learnt to be satisfied on my own because there will always be a time when no one will be there for you, to carry your bags and take you home. I'm a woman with balls and I'm thankful that I've learnt how to use them. It makes life a little bit easier. As long as you don't think about it much.

Can't say I'm not trying

by sweetymon @ Saturday, Jun. 07, 2008 - 10:38:26

Typical. I want to go jogging and practice for my charity run and it's grey and miserable outside. I had nice Nike jogging bottoms too. Still no proper running trainers, but no one ever died from running in skater Vans, did they?

So we're all supporting Portugal tonight, right?! :>> I'm the girl who wears pretty dresses and heels, and likes to watch football and drink beer and eat peanuts. Special. I'm making healthy junk food tonight to watch my dad's rage show the match. It'll be fun.

Today's song is:

Two birthdays and a lot of nothings

by sweetymon @ Friday, Jun. 06, 2008 - 10:32:04

Yesterday it was my mates' birthday (twins ) so I went over to join the celebration. Everytime I'm there, somehow my glass seems to be permanently full, mainly of this:

Malibu

And although I'd told myself I wasn't gonna drink much of it yesterday, I ended up with countless glasses of Malibu and lemonade. And then Southern Comfort. And Tia Maria. It was fun though, and it made me decide to have a dinner party for my birthday; I'll have friends over and cook a lovely meal and we'll drink up at my house - hopefully my own house by then! So today I'm in the mood for being lazy and my plans are to read this, do this - but to do that I first have to do this because God knows where my jogging pants are amongst all that dirty laundry - and of course the thing I'm looking forward to the most is seeing the boy. Yesterday was a big mush-fest-girly-chat and I have a feeling I was the main culprit. Oh dear.

Today's song is:

How long does it take for the bloody junk in the trunk to tone up?!! I'm running out of time here, holiday's creeping up on me and my humps ain't getting any more Longoria like. U-(

Hope you have a great day!
